Robert P. Apkarian, Ph.D.
(June 2, 1953 - February 28, 2006)
Dr. Rob Apkarian, founder and director of the The Integrated Microscopy and Microanalytical Facility, was killed in an accident on Feb. 28, 2006.
He was an author on over 100 publications and recognized world-wide for his role in developing methods in the field of microscopy including the use
of chromium coating in low-temperature high resolution scanning electron microscopy. His recognitions from the microscopy community include being a
twenty-five year member of MSA (Microscopy Society of America), elected member of the National Academy of Sciences in Armenia, MSA representitive
to the AAAS Consortium of Affiliates on International Programs (CAIP) and formerly chairman of MSAs International Committee. He is greatly missed by
friends and colleagues around the world.
